Healthy Daily Skin Care Routines for Any Season

A skin care routine is one of the most important things that you can do for the long-term health and youthful appearance of your face and skin. The first consideration in developing your healthy, daily skin care routine is to determine your skin type which may be dry or oily, or a combination type of skin that changes with the season.  For the most part, your skin type should remain consistent.

Some of the most important things that you should keep in you skin care cabinet include:

Cleanser

A good cleanser must be a part of everyone’s skin care routine, and it is important to use one formulated specifically for your face, not just generic body wash. You should gently wash your face without scrubbing too hard, rinse with warm water, not hot water as too high of a temperature will strip the natural oils from your skin and cause your face to become dehydrated.

Find a facial cleanser that works well with your skin. If you have oily skin, you may want an oil-free skin cleanser or if your skin is dry you might want to choose one without fragrance or alcohol.  If you have oily skin, you may want to consider using a toner as well.

Toner

Toner should be applied to your face after washing to smooth and calm the skin.  Toners typically include ingredients that restore nutrients and replenish your skin that can help to diminish dry patches and redness.

Moisturizer

A good moisturizer is important for everyone and should be applied after washing your face. Moisturizers can be lightweight for oily skin or may be applied a little thicker during the colder, drier winter months. The best time to apply moisturizer is after washing and when your face is still a little damp to lock in moisture.

Sunscreen

Applying a sunscreen with an adequate SPF of at least 30 should be part of your everyday routine, even on gray, cloudy days, fall and winter.  Use sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.  Exposure to UV rays is the number one cause of uneven skin tone, signs of aging and wrinkles.

Exfoliation

You should exfoliate regularly but not every day as over-exfoliation can be damaging to your skin.  Exfoliate once or twice a week at the most, after cleansing, but before applying moisturizer.

Serum

Serums are a wonderful, healthy addition to your skin care routine and contain ingredients like antioxidants and retinol that provide many health benefits to your skin.  Serums can help to improve firmness, moisture, and calm redness.

Prenatal Massage during Pregnancy: Benefits and Risks

Massage therapy is known to relax the mind and body, which is extremely beneficial for pregnant women. A prenatal massage is adapted to address your anatomical changes that occur during pregnancy. For example, during a traditional massage you typically spend time lying facedown on your stomach and lying on your back. During a prenatal massage, you most likely will lie on your side for safety and comfort as your massage therapist uses special cushions or pillows for support. Therapeutic massage is proven to provide many health benefits and the same is true for expecting mothers.  According to the American Pregnancy Association , prenatal massage therapy helps to reduce muscle aches and joint pain and reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety, which is all true even if you are not expecting.
