Swedish Massage Versus Deep Tissue Massage: What’s the Difference?

The classic Swedish massage is a great introductory massage for yourself or loved ones and is perfect for unwinding and energizing.  Both a Swedish massage and a deep tissue massage are two popular forms of massage therapy.  A deep tissue massage uses some of the same types of strokes as a Swedish although with more forceful techniques to release tension deep in muscle and connective tissue.

A Swedish massage is gentler than deep tissue techniques and is a better choice for people who want simple tension relief and relaxation. Swedish massage is great to loosen up tight muscles brought on by daily activities whether working at a desk all day or stressing your muscles by exercising.

The main differences between a Swedish massage and a deep tissue massage are:

  • Technique

  • Pressure

  • Intended Use

  • Area of focus

A Swedish massage uses techniques such as long strokes, kneading, passive joint movements, and deep circular movements.  Although these techniques are the basis for deep tissue massage, a deep tissue massage will apply more pressure to work into deeper layers of muscle and fascia to break up tight knots.  Deep tissue massage helps to relieve chronic pain and is often intended for runners, athletes, or people with sports injuries. Deep tissue massage also helps to relieve the chronic pain of conditions like fibromyalgia.

Top 5 Reasons to Keep Getting Pedicures in the Fall

Just because cooler weather comes with fall and winter months, and maybe we do not wear the strappy sandals of summer, this is no reason to not continue with your pedicure foot treatments.  The way your feet look after a pedicure is only one small benefit of quality foot treatments.  A wonderful bonus is that your feet look amazing, and you can show them off in warm, summer months. But when the weather turns cooler and we break out our favorite pair of boots, this is the time when your feet can benefit from a pedicure the most.  Here are the most popular reasons why you should keep getting a pedicure in the fall:  1) We Carry Stress in Our Feet Even if we do not work on our feet all day, a lot of stress builds up in our feet and we do not even realize that it is happening.  A quality pedicure and foot massage can relieve stress in all parts of the body from experienced technicians trained in touch therapy and foot massage.   2) Your Feet Still Need No...
